Everett shows compassion

December 17, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Former representative Feese was sentenced to prison and is now serving his sentence. It is no doubt that he is in need, especially with the fines he will be expected to pay when he is released.

Representative Everett has asked his colleagues to make donations to Brett Feese's prison commissary fund. Mr. Feese and Representative Everett were school friends and Representative Everett is showing his loyalty and compassion to and for Mr. Feese. He only asked his colleagues, not the residents of his district.

It not wrong nor unusual for inmates to receive gifts while incarcerated. Every inmate has an account at the prison commissary for the things they need. This does not show the giver of approving the conduct of the inmate.

While our country is still so divided politically are we now bereft of any charity for our fellow man?

I think Representative Everett has shown outstanding compassion for the plight of a friend of his and should be an example to all of us, especially at this time of year.
