Brandy Withey, of Avis, always wanted to attend Penn State, but after high school began working.
She never gave up on her dream. And while working as a certified nurse's aide, she took advantage of courses available at the Penn State Williamsport Center and online courses offered through Penn State's World Campus to achieve her long-held goal.
She will pick up her diploma during Penn State's fall commencement at University Park campus on Dec. 22.
Withey, 27, has worked as a CNA at ManorCare Health Services in Jersey Shore for nearly eight years.
She first began her education by taking general education classes at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. Then in 2010, she enrolled at Penn State Williamsport Center.
Withey is the first graduate of the Williamsport Center, earning an associate degree in human development and family studies, with an emphasis on adult development and aging services.
Withey next plans to pursue a career in workplace safety coordination or human resources.
