Lycoming senior Jerald Williams recorded 13 assists to become the Middle Atlantic Conference's career leader in the Warriors' 74-65 win over King's College in men's basketball on Sunday afternoon. Williams added 10 points for his third double-double of the season.
"I think he is the best player in the league," said Lycoming head coach Guy Rancourt, who picked up his 75th win at the College. "He's a difference maker. He's the reason that we've consistently been one of the top teams over the last several years. I am real proud of him."
Williams' 671 career assists moves him past the former record of 668 set by Lebanon Valley's Mike Rhoads from 1992-1995. Williams surpassed Rhoads' mark when he drove the lane and passed to Anthony Martin who made a 16-foot shot. The 671 career assists ranks 18th in NCAA history.
Lycoming won its eighth consecutive game with four players scoring in double figures. Kevin Anthony scored 16 points and Justin Miller and Ihsaan Davis each had 14 points to go with Williams' 10.
The Williamsport Outlaws were outshot by 11 on Sunday afternoon in a 4-1 loss to Danville. Justin Sand recorded 39 saves for the Dashers. Trevor Karasiewicz scored the lone goal for the Outlaws in the first period. Williamsport had 34 minutes of penalties, 28 more than Danville's six.
Competing at the first ever Grapple at the Garden in New York City, Bucknell's wrestling team fell to No. 5 Iowa, 34-9, in Madison Square Garden. The only two wins for the Bison came from 165-pounder Corey Lear and 197-pounder Ty Lyster.
Lear, ranked 16th in the country by Intermat, beat No. 19 Nick Moore, 5-2. Lyster picked up a fall over the Hawkeyes' Nathan Burak in 3:34.
Williamsport's Ethan Walters finished eighth in the 55-meter hurdles at the Dickinson College on Saturday.
