Norman Ellsworth Aten, 85, of Armstrong Township, Williamsport, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.
He was born May 14, 1927, in Towanda, the son of Norman E. and Ida Erikson Aten.
He was a World War II Navy veteran. He graduated from Lycoming College in 1959. He retired in 1993 from the Williamsport office of Merrill Lynch, after 34 years of employment.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was a current member and past president of Quinlintown Hunting Camp and a former member of Trout Unlimited, Lycoming Creek Anglers Club, Consolidated Sportsmen, Muncy Creek Incorporated, and the Wheel Inn Incorporated. He was a former member of the USS General H.W. Buttner Reunion Association, and the Yangtze River Patrol. He was a current member and past post commander of VFW Post 7863 of DuBoistown. He was a current member of the Towanda Union Lodge 108 F. and A. M. since 1950 and a current member of the Williamsport Consistory. He was a former member of the Williamsport Shrine Club and Irem Temple.
Norman is survived by his wife, the former Marjory Goodwin; a son, Norman Aten, III of Bellefonte; two daughters, Bonnie Aten of Clearfield and Bethann Aten and husband Steven Gallik of Lewisburg; six grandchildren; a brother, John Aten of Foley, Alabama and a sister, Pamela Kieffer and husband, Robert of Boston, Va.
He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Andrew Aten; special aunt and uncle, the former Grace Aten and husband, George Henrie and a sister, Mercedes Thompson.
Funeral services will be held noon Saturday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Pastor Jane L. O'Borski officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, with graveside military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at the funeral home.
