Ernestine M. Bower

Ernestine M. Bower, 84, of Cogan Station, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Sycamore Manor Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

Born Nov. 22, 1928, in South Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Ernest C. and Mary E. Solomon.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Raymond K Bower on Oct. 29, 2004.

Ernestine attended Hepburnville Schools. After receiving her LPN license, she worked at the former Lysock View Nursing Home from 1962 to 71, Sycamore Manor Nursing Home from 1971 until retiring in 1991. After retiring, she continued providing private duty nursing care until 2004. While working at Sycamore she also headed up the volunteer program.

Ernestine was a life-long member of Warrensville United Methodist Church, Eldred Township Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, a 60 year member of Eldred Grange No. 1604, Mill Creek Senior Citizens Club, Charter member of Loyalsock Valley Antique Machinery Association, and the Sycamore Manor Red Hat Ladies Assoc.

Ernestine enjoyed crocheting, donating over 100 afghans to family, friends and various charitable organizations. She enjoyed cooking and baking for local volunteer organizations. One of her greatest passions was volunteering countless hours to the residents at Sycamore Manor. She enjoyed living her life on the Bower Farm hosting the annual Thanksgiving butchering, canning from her garden and taking care of her beautiful flower beds.

Surviving are her four children, Sandra L. and the late Wendell W. Null Jr, Montoursville, Kenneth E (Barb) Bower Sr, Cogan Station, Lucille I (Thomas) Tallman Sr., Cogan Station and Mary Ann Haupt, Warrensville.

There are nine grandchildren, Wally (Cindy) Null III, Suzanne Null, Melissa (Matt) Iseley, Kenneth (Kim) Bower Jr., Kenneth (Kim Hanna) Tallman, Thomas Tallman Jr., Tina (Chad) Earnest, David (CeCe) Haupt, and Raymond (Jennifer) Haupt.

There are 19 great grandchildren, Tony Null, Carlina Null, Taylor Miller, Dylan Iseley, Brittany Bower, Tommy Tallman III, Cody Earnest, Lydia Earnest, Conner Tallman, Kendall Tallman, Hunter Hanna, Tyranae Haupt, Drake Haupt, Temperance Haupt, Cooper Haupt, Tyler Riggleman, Tim Turner, Kyle Turner and Allison Turner.

Surviving are four sisters, Eleanor (Max) Tebbs, San Antonio, Texas, Shirley (Charles) Springman, JoAnn (late Ronald) Bixler, and Ida Mae (Robert) Heller, all of Williamsport and one brother, Gary (Viola) Solomon, Trout Run.

Ernestine was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton E. and Roger D. Solomon.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Pastor Connie A. Waugh officiating. Burial will follow at Quaker Hill Cemetery, Cogan Station. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sycamore Manor Volunteers, 1445 Sycamore Road, Montoursville, PA 17754.
