I live in a country where an eight- year-old girl is chastised for growing a vegetable garden in her own yard by her neighbor, who turns her in to a local zoning officer for a violation of a code no one in authority can verify without her dad paying $200 to get a hearing. Meanwhile, our Agricultural Secretary Tom Vilsack is quoted as saying "It's time for us to have an adult conversation with folks in rural America." To the child with the beautiful garden box that would supply her family with fresh vegetables and most likely the self-righteous neighbor who turned her in, I say this: Call Tom Vilsack and invite him for your hearing. Ask him to bring the $200 in cash as a gift to you tax free. Within the first 10 minutes of the hearing he should be able to figure out a strategic plan on how to deal with Congress. If I were him, I would hire you as Undersecretary of Agriculture, since you already know at eight how to create and improve your nutritional needs for you and your neighbors with little expense. Your dad needs to be nominated for Teacher of the Year for giving you the tools to achieve anything you desire. Capitalism is opportunity monetized. Good for you.
As a farmer who makes a living out of "Cultivating wellness through forage-based feeding practices, nurtured environments, and natural sciences", you are ahead of the curve!
