Israel Library, Vatican in serious discussions

December 22, 2012
Special to the Sun-Gazette , Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Cliff Rieders, of Williamsport, president of the Herbert Rieders Foundation for the Recovery of Objects Judaica and the charitable subdivision Hatzilu, while in Israel recently, was granted an interview with Dr. Aviad Stollman, chief curator of the Israel Library.

Stollman discussed efforts to cooperate with the Vatican with regard to its priceless Judaica collection and future possibilities. It appears that the Israel Library and the Vatican are in serious discussions with respect to the collection and how it may be more productively utilized by scholars and others. This would represent a step forward in spreading knowledge and information concerning many of the world's most sacred texts.

Rieders is scheduled to be at the Vatican on Feb. 27 to interview Ambrogio M. Piazzoni, vice prefetto, and Dr. Delio Vania Proverbio, scriptor orientalis, in connection with their Vatican Jewish collection. Thereafter, Rieders will travel to Jerusalem to obtain other points of view with respect to the same.

The nature of the project is to build upon the leading documentary already released to the public entitled "Golden Treasures: The Vatican Judaica Collection." The next film will be titled "Golden Treasures Revealed," and has already garnered much interest in the religious and academic communities.

No release date for the new film has been announced.
