Von Walker all-state football in Class AAAA

December 21, 2012
From staff reports , Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Central Mountain's Von Walker was chosen for the 2012 Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Football Team released Thursday.

Walker, who plans to walk on next fall at Penn State, was chosen as an athlete. He will graduate with at least a share of 13 school rushing records; including most rushing yards in a season (1,566), most career rushing yards, season touchdowns (18) and most touchdowns scored in a career. He also passed for more than 1000 yards, becoming the first player in school history to accomplish that feat.

"Well, I just found out today and it feels really good and I'm proud of myself," Walker said. "All of our work paid off this season and I couldn't have done it without my teammates, everyone contributed. On top of everything else going on it's like the cherry on top."

Walker, a 6-foot, 195-pound senior who expects to play slot receiver at Penn State, was the only area selection among the Class AAAA and AAA?teams released Thursday. Lewisburg's Kyle Santorine and Brandon Smith were chosen for the Class AA?team Wednesday.

"Whenever you have an athlete like Von, it allows you to be creative," CM?coach Vinnie Kishbaugh said. "Even more than the type of athlete he was, he is just a great kid to have in your program. He understood the importance of getting younger kids involved. Von carries himself in such a way that made Central Mountain football proud, as an athlete and as a person."
