Barbara J. Albert, program specialist for the early childhood education major at Pennsylvania College of Technology, presented a workshop at the Pennsylvania Early Childhood Education Summit.
Albert's workshop was titled "Rough and Tumble Play, Is It OK?" During the session, she examined the benefits of vigorous play and taught participants about appropriate rough-and-tumble play and methods to encourage and supervise such play while promoting safety and positive social interactions.
The 2012 Early Childhood Education Summit was held at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. The event was co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Child Care Association, the Office of Childhood Development and Early Learning, and the Pennsylvania Head Start Association.
The fifth annual summit provided more than a thousand early care and education practitioners, parents, and advocates with the opportunity to build a stronger early-learning community.
Albert holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Bucknell University and a master's degree in human development and family studies from The Pennsylvania State University. She taught preschool and kindergarten before joining the staff at the Children's Learning Center, a facility for the children of students and employees at Penn College, in 1994. In the Children's Learning Center, she taught preschool and kindergarten.
In 2001, Albert received the Child Care Teacher Recognition Award from the Terri Lynne Lockoff Child Care Foundation. In 2008, she joined the staff of Penn College's early childhood education major as the program specialist.
