Local roundup: Hughesville overcomes early deficit

Hughesville overcame a 15-4 first-quarter deficit to defeat Central Columbia on Friday night, 47-43. The Spartans cut eight points off the deficit by halftime and won the second half by seven. Tristan Jeffreys and Fred Newhart each scored 11 points for the Spartans.

Jersey Shore broke open a four-point halftime game with a 22-9 advantage in the third quarter during a 66-46 win over Shamokin. Eric Huling led the Bulldogs with 23 points.

Zach Ashford's 16 points helped lead Bloomsburg to a 65-30 victory over Montgomery.

Lewisburg's Travis Conrad scored 23 points and the Green Dragons defeated Mount Carmel, 46-36. The Green Dragons moved to 5-0.

Wellsboro's Jordan Jackson and Mike Pietropola combined for 37 points and the Green Hornets defeated Athens, 55-49.

Tim Bassett recorded 12 rebounds and 16 points as Canton rolled past Williamson, 70-45.

Dallas Dziuba had 12 rebounds and 10 points to help lead Mansfield to a 74-52 win over Troy. Reece Correll also had a big game for the Tigers, scoring 20 points and nabbing five steals.

Pierce Ranck scored 26 points and shot 10 of 11 from the free throw line in Montoursville's 57-46 victory over Warrior Run. The Warriors were also helped by solid defensive performance.

In girls basketball, Maria Morgan scored a career-high 42 points and nearly helped Bucktail make a huge comeback before it lost 85-74 at Millville. Morgan scored 21 points in the third quarter when the Bucks cut a 20-point halftime deficit to one. Sophomore Meridith Blessard added a career-high 25 points.
