It is with great sadness and horror I write this letter. The event at the Sandy Hook Elementary School appalls me as a retired teacher, a parent and grandparent of two six-year olds. Thank God for the brave, quick actions of the school personnel and law enforcement officers or it would even worse than it is!
I have many family members who are avid hunters and card carrying members of the NRA but even they don't believe assault weapons should be in the hands of the public. Also, I attended the movie Lincoln Saturday night and was sickened by the violent previews for the upcoming movies. I am aware of the lyrics of the songs and the computer games that are out there that children listen to, play and become in sensitized to.
Our society needs to unite and condemn this senseless violence that permeates our culture. Parents, be aware of what your children are hearing seeing and doing. If their mind is filled with these horrible images and thoughts, that is what they will think about! I pray God be with all the families and give them some kind of peace after the country goes back to their normal living.
