Barbara N. Demarest, 73, of Milton, Pa., passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, after a courageous 13-month battle with ovarian cancer. She was born April 22, 1939, in Huntersville, Pa., a daughter of the late Ransom and Ethel Nunn.
Barb was a 1957 graduate of Milton High School. She was employed for 42 years at AC&F Industries in Milton in the personnel department until her retirement in 2001. After retirement, Barb enjoyed wintering in The Villages in Florida, and golfing. She was also a huge Penn State and Yankee fan, and enjoyed watching any sport her grandchildren participated in.
She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Milton and above all cherished her family. On May 28, 1993, she married her husband of 19 years, H. Nelson Demarest.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Melissa (Chris) Polak and their children, Ryan, Connor, McKenna and Teagan, and Heather (Creighton) Douglas and their son, Colin; her stepchildren, Nelson (Michele Demarest and Melissa (Dave) Keller and their six children. She is also survived by two brothers, Tom and David Nunn; five sisters, Pat Muffley, Carol Shurtz, Sandra Miller, Sharon Levering, Debbie Fitzgerald; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Janet Lutcher.
The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Interment will follow in the Montoursville Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held Thursday, Dec. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Barbara's memory be made to her church, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 Mahoning St., Milton, PA 17847, or to Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, 1 Maria Hall Dr., Danville, PA 17821.
The family especially wants to thank the staff and the Sisters of Maria Hospice for their care and many acts of kindness for our loved one.
