Bernice I. Johnson

Bernice I. Johnson, 98, of Millville, Pa., formerly of Unityville, Pa., went to be with the Lord Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the Millville Health Care Center. She was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Greenwood Township, a daughter of the late Orville Ortwine and Alice Young-Ortwine.

She attended Greenwood School and was a graduate of Millville. She spent her entire life in the Columbia County area. In her early years she was a cook at Millville High school and a machine operator at Milco in Benton. She was the oldest living member of the Salem United Methodist Church and she liked to read and crochet and garden and in later years did search-a-words.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hurley Johnson who passed away Jan. 14, 1985; two grandchildren; four brothers, Francis, Orville Jr., Bert, and Eugene Ortwine and four sisters, Kathryn Foss, Emma Myers, Ora Roadarmal and Neva Johnson.

She is survived by two sons, Orville Larue Johnson and wife Pearl of Millville and Francis Johnson and wife, Cindy of Muncy Road; three daughters, Pearl and her husband, Frank Tranor of Benton, Emma Smith, Rev. Gayann Gearhart both of Unityville; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Cora Sharrow of Bloomsburg.

Services will be Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. from Bunnell Funeral Home, 179 E. Main St., Millville. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Salem United Methodist Church.
