Ralph I. Steele, 87, formerly of Carlton Terrace, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at the Williamsport Home following a lengthy illness.
Ralph and his wife, the former Betty Rae Fry, celebrated their 65th anniversary on June 21.
Ralph had co-owned S & E Markets and later owned and operated Ralph's Meats and Deli with his son, Randy, for many years, retiring in 1992. He was a Navy veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his family, watching grandchildren's football and baseball games, camping and boating along the Susquehanna River.
Born Feb. 7, 1925, in Randolph, Mass., he was the son of Lester and Hilda Lundberg Steele.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Randy P. (Cindy) of Williamsport and Mark L. (Sandra) of Linden; daughters, Gail A. (Carl W.) Marshall of Richmond, Va., and Leslie L. Ellwood of North Huntingdon; a brother, Edward B. of Boston, Mass.; a sister, Marjorie Deniso of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, 324 Howard St., South Williamsport, with the Rev. Susan P. Lynch officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
