The Philadelphia Phillies officially announced Thursday that Nelson Prada will manage the Williamsport Crosscutters, the Phillies short-season Class A affiliate, in 2013 as part of an all-new coaching staff.
A former catcher, Prada has managed in the Minnesota Twins organization for the last 8 seasons, first with the Gulf Coast Twins (2005-2007) and for the last 5 seasons with the Beloit Snappers (Class A-Midwest League). He has compiled an overall record of 436-418.
Prada will be joined on the Cutters staff by pitching coach Les Lancaster and coach Lino Connell who were both previously announced in November.
Prada's professional playing career spanned four seasons in the Twins organization (1995-1998) playing in a total of 135 minor league games.
Andy Tracy, who managed Williamsport in 2012, has been named the Phillies minor league hitting coordinator. He takes the place of Steve Henderson, who was named the Philadelphia Phillies hitting coach. 2012 pitching coach Aaron Fultz has been named the pitching coach at Lakewood (A) and 2012 Cutters coach Rafael DeLima will be a coach with the Gulf Coast League Phillies (R) in 2013.
The Crosscutters open their 2013 New York-Penn League season on June 18 vs. State College at Bowman Field.
The Cutters are also hosting their annual Hot Stove banquet Monday, Jan. 21 at the Genetti. Two-time Cy Young winner Denny McClain and Phillies pitcher Justin DeFratus are among the scheduled guests.
