MANSFIELD - Mansfield University student Adam L. Welch, 18, of 305 Dewald Lane, Hughesville, is accused by university police of possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
The charges were filed after police were dispatched for an odor of marijuana in a hallway of Hickory Hall on Dec. 12. According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson's office, another student was exiting Room 450 when police arrived, and that student told police Welch and another student were smoking pot in the room.
Welch invited police into the room when they knocked and allegedly admitted to smoking pot and then turned over a copper colored marijuana grinder with about 0.1 gram of the drug, as well as a homemade bong made from two plastic bottles and a socket wrench.
He was issued a summons for a Feb. 6 preliminary hearing.
