Retail theft alleged

MANSFIELD - Ernie E. Thomas, 30, of Galeton, was charged by state police with retail theft after he allegedly tried to walk out of the Richmond Township Wal-Mart without paying for merchandise recently.

According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson's office, Thomas took video games, DVDs and household items totaling $368 and placed them in a cart, then pushed it past the registers and attempted to leave without paying. Police said he previously was arrested for retail theft by state police in Coudersport.

He was released on $10,000 bail.
