Man accused of stealing copper
An Isabella Street man faces two sets of charges for allegedly stealing scrap copper, according to city police.
Eric Gerald Brown, 22, of 1118 Isabella St., has been charged with allegedly breaking into Markle's Plumbing, 1020 Dewey Ave., on Dec. 21 and stealing a bucket of scrap copper and aluminum piping, valued at $150.
On the same morning, Brown allegedly stole 100 feet of copper from the back of a pickup truck owned by Ruble Shuff while the vehicle was parked in the 800 block of Mulberry Street, police said.
Concerning the break-in at the plumbing business, Brown has been charged with burglary, felony trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property.
He was jailed on those charges by District Judge James Carn after being unable to post $35,000 bail.
Brown has since been arraigned before District Judge Allen P. Page III on additional charges of theft and receiving stolen, and recommitted in lieu of an additional 7,500 bail.
Domestic dispute leads to charges
HUGHESVILLE - A domestic disturbance between two men at their Wolf Township home at 22 Michael Ave. resulted in criminal charges being filed against one of them, according to state police.
Ryan Joseph Brown, 21, allegedly told Edward Joseph Brown Jr. that he was going "to kill him and cut off his head," during the late-afternoon confrontation on Dec. 17.
Ryan Brown was charged with terroristic threats and harassment, and has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge Jon E. Kemp, police said.
The investigating trooper did not say how the Browns were related.
Charges dropped when victim fails to show
City police dropped charges of simple assault and harassment against Karvel Ann Swaby, 37, of 1226 W. Fourth St., after the alleged victim in the case, Joseph E. Thomas, failed to appear for Swaby's preliminary hearing.
Swaby was charged after allegedly striking Thomas in the head with a telephone during disturbance at the couple's home on Dec. 8, police said.
Women accused of shoplifting in Loyalsock Township
Two women are charged with misdemeanor shoplifting while together at Kmart, 1915 E. Third St., about 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 22, according to state police.
Brittany Leigh Dobson, 20, of 678 First Ave., was caught allegedly trying to leave the store with $54 worth of merchandise while Nicole Elizabeth Kiper, 22, of 1625 Catherine St., was caught with $49 worth of merchandise. It is a second offense for both women.
The two were arraigned last week before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman and released on $2,500 bail each.
Alleged bad check to lawyer results in man's arrest
Charles Rudolph Sewell, 50, of Boothwyn, Delaware County, has been charged with theft of services and bad checks for allegedly writing a $500 bad check to the private law firm Miele and Rymsza, 36 W. Fourth St., on Aug. 26, city police said. He is free on $1,500 bail following a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Judge Allen P. Page III.
City man jailed after disturbance on First Avenue
Timothy M. Kelly, 20, of 1247 High St., has been charged by city police with disorderly conduct, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest following a disturbance in the 800 block of First Avenue on Dec. 1.
Following his arraignment before District Judge Allen P. Page III, he is free on $2,500 bail.
Police accuse man of disorderly conduct
William Ernest Rishel, 36, 1140 Grove St., has been charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct following a disturbance outside his home about 4:20 a.m. on Dec. 10, city police said. Initially committed to the Lycoming County Prison, he is free on $10,000 bail.
Man charged with giving alcohol to 20-year-old
MUNCY - Ryan James Braunsburg, 21, of 8 Brunner St., has been charged by state police with furnishing alcohol to an underage person, according to state police.
Braunsburg went into the Wines and Spirits store at 1274 E. Penn St., purchased a bottle of liquor and then gave it to 20-year-old Megan C. Muffly outside the store on Aug. 9, police said. He has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge Jon E. Kemp.
Man jailed for hitting wife
MUNCY - Donald James Baillie, 39, of 125 W. Water St., has been charged with simple assault and harassment for allegedly striking his wife, Heather, during a domestic disturbance at the couple's home about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Baillie claimed Heather "was swinging at him," police said.
The woman was treated at Muncy Valley Hospital while her husband was arraigned before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $7,500 bail.
Teen turns in pot-smoking parents
After a teenage girl went to city police headquarters and reported that her parents "had been smoking marijuana around her for as long as she could remember," officers paid a visit to the couple's Newberry home on Arnold Street with a search warrant.
Even before going inside, Cpl. Damon Hagan said, "I could smell the odor of marijuana near the front door."
As a result of the Dec. 8 search of the home of David A. and Angie Umstead at 1025 Arnold St., police seized a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
However, in addition to being charged with possession of a controlled substance, the 39-year-old father and 36-year-old mother each face an additional charge of corrupting the morals of a minor. Angie also has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child because police allege she gave marijuana to her daughter on two occasions in November.
The father, who admitted to smoking marijuana three times a day, told police he smokes with his wife "when the daughter is not home," Hagan said.
The Umsteads each were arraigned before District Judge James Carn. Umstead was released on $18,500 bail while his wife freed on $25,000 bail.
Man on probation arrested for forgery
MUNCY - A Northumberland County man on probation for a drug conviction has been charged by borough police with allegedly forging and cashing two checks from the Nite-Lite Sign Co. in mid-December.
Cody Lee Chestnut, 21, of Sunbury, forged the signature of Ruth King, the company's owner, on the checks, which were written for the amounts of $616 and $655, police said. The checks were cashed at the Muncy Bank and Trust in the borough.
Following his recent arraignment before District Judge Jon E. Kemp on charges of theft, theft by deception on receiving stolen property, Chestnut was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Teen charged with theft of iPod
HUGHESVILLE - Ethan Paul Quinn, 18, of 415 Harris Hill Road, Muncy, has been charged with theft for allegedly stealing Nick Yeager's iPod from a gym bag in a locker room at Hughesville High School, 349 Cemetery St., on Nov. 21, according to borough police.
He has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge Jon E. Kemp.
Woman accused of selling stolen item
PENNSDALE - Joleen Anna Hoover, 30, of 642 Second Ave., Williamsport, faces charges for allegedly selling stolen merchandise to FYE at the Lycoming Mall on Oct. 31, according to state police.
Police accused Hoover of bringing into the mall store $239 worth of stolen video games and selling them for a total of $66.
The games were stolen from Kmart in Loyalsock Township, police said. She has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge Jon E. Kemp.
Pleas entered in 2 drug cases
Brandon Sean Martinez, 19, of 2529 Linn St., has pled guilty to a city police charged of possessing marijuana at Washington Boulevard and Railway Street on Oct. 3.
Following his recent guilty plea before District Judge Allen P. Page III, Martinez made arrangements to pay $431 in fines and court costs.
In another drug case, Sandreyah Holli Helt, 20, of 2005 Reach Road, pled guilty before District Judge James Carn to possession of marijuana in the 1700 block of West Fourth Street in the city on May 25 when she was stopped at a county DUI Task Force checkpoint in the 1700 block of West Fourth Street.
She made arrangements to pay $545 in fines and court costs.
