Dayton scored three times in the third period to pull away from Williamsport and beat the Outlaws, 6-4, Sunday night.
The Demonz's Ryan Wiley and Jesse Felton each scored in the first three minutes of the third period to give Dayton a 5-3 lead. Williamsport answered with a goal halfway through the period to cut the deficit to one, but James Sanford scored an empty-net goal with just over a minute left to give the Demonz a two-goal lead.
Williamsport's four goals were scored by different players, including Matthew Puntureri and Brett Needham who scored in the first period to give the Outlaws a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. Anthony Battaglia added a power-play goal in the second period, but not until after Dayton had taken the lead two power-play hoals of their own.
The Outlaws were outshot, 42-35, and goaltender Chris Whitley made 36 saves against 41 shots faced.
Williamsport remained in second place, 14 points behind Dayton in the Federal Hockey League standings. The Outlaws return home Friday and Saturday with games against Dayton at Airmen Pond at Bowman Field.
