Vera P. Hughes

Vera P. Hughes, 96, of Old Lycoming Township, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at the Gatehouse in Divine Providence Hospital.

She was born July 3, 1916, in Milton, the daughter of William and Minerva (Weaver) Baumgartner. Vera was the last surviving sibling of 11 brothers and sisters.

She was a 1934 graduate of Milton High School and was married Nov. 16, 1935, to George L. Hughes Sr. who passed away Aug. 5, 2010.

Vera was a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Red Coconut Club and the Red Hat Society of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.

Vera enjoyed playing cards, traveling, walking on the beach and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, George L. Hughes Jr. and Terry W. Hughes, both of Cogan Station; eight grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Vera's Life Celebration will begin with a visitation from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. A service will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Richards D. Waters officiating. Interment will be held private.

Her family suggests contributions be made to the Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
