Edward E. "Ed" Kriner, 86, 3417 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, died at his home at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, after an illness.
Born in Williamsport on April 25, 1926, he was the son of the late Mary E. (Macensky) Kriner.
He was a 1944 graduate of Williamsport High School where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. He later attended Lycoming College before transferring to East Stroudsburg State Teachers College, where he graduated in 1951.
Ed taught physical education and health education at Bloomsburg High School for 34 years, retiring in 1986.
He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and Panama during World War II for two and one half years.
Ed was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg.
He was inducted into the West Branch Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame, Williamsport, in Nov. 2003.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie A. Eck, with whom he celebrated their wedding anniversary of 59 years on Aug. 22, 2012; a son, Stephen Kriner and his wife Gale, Titusville; a daughter, Marianne Coratello, Northumberland; and three granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Columbia Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery. There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends at the church after 9:30 a.m. Monday.
