Roundup: Lyco wrestling 1-2 at Budd Whitehills

Sophomores Caleb Willey and Brian Watkins won all three of their matches, but the Lycoming wrestling team fell out of contention to place at the 25th annual Budd Whitehill Duals, falling to 19th-ranked Ohio Northern, 31-9, and Coast Guard, 30-13, before rebounding with a win over Gettysburg in the consolation bracket on Friday.

The Warriors (4-4) were aided by a pair of forfeits and a pair of pins against Gettysburg (4-9) and also won two bouts in overtime to seal the 33-16 win.

The Duals conclude today at Lamade Gym. Lycoming meets Waynesburg at noon.

The semifinals are Wisconsin-Stevens Point vs. York and Messiah vs. Wabash.

In men's basketball, Joe Bell had a monster-game scoring 34 points and pulling down a career-high 22 rebounds to lead Mansfield to a 77-73 win over Clarion in a PSAC crossover contest.

Lock Haven dropped a double-overtime thriller at Bloom, 106-98.

In women's basketball, Lock Haven University women's basketball team fell to No. 25 Bloomsburg, 80-53 at Bloomsburg's Nelson Field House.

Jena Matter paced four Mountaineers in double-figure scoring as the Mansfield University women's basketball team downed visiting Clarion University, 77-68.

In boys basketball, South Williamsport had three players that scored at least eight points, including Riley Hengler who scored a team-high 14 points in a 53-52 loss to Millville. Alex Kita added 11 points for the Mounties.

Liberty's Cody Schmouder scored a team-high 20 points in a 66-39 loss to Sayre. Sayre made 10 three-pointers in the win.

Travis Conrad outscored Warrior Run by himself in the first half, 20-15, as Lewisburg beat the Defenders, 69-32.

Muncy beat Benton, 85-48, behind a triple-double from Ammar Sabanovic (11 points, 12 assists, 10 steals)?and a double-double from Nick Ring (16 points, 15 rebounds).

Wellsboro breezed past Cowanesque Valley, 74-32, at home. Mike Pietropola led the Hornets with 20 points, 12 of which came from three-point goals.

Sullivan County routed Montgomery, 64-32, behind a solid performance from Derek Wilkins who scored 21 points and pulled in eight rebounds.

Dallas Dziuba had 15 rebounds and 13 points to help Mansfield slip past Williamson, 46-37.

Emmett Watson helped Canton slip past Troy, 66-54, with his 22 point game. As a team Canton hit an impressive 20 of 20 free-throws on the night.

Hughesville outscored Mount Carmel 10-3 in overtime to seal a, 51-44, victory over the Red Tornados. Tristin Jeffreys led the Spartans with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Jersey Shore fell to Danville, 68-52. Steven Baier led the ?Bulldogs with 15 points in defeat.

In girls basketball, Loyalsock allowed an eight-point lead entering the fourth quarter to slip away in a 37-35 loss at Central Columbia. The Lancers were outscored in the final quarter, 12-2.
