A newspaper headline earlier this month read "More clashes loom as new Congress opens."
That certainly is not what Bloomsburg native and Berwick business owner Karl Hunsinger wants to hear.
He has very little confidence in Congress getting anything done.
"Do I have trust in them? No, not really. There is way too much dissension between Democrats and Republicans," Hunsinger, who has three children and four grandchildren, said recently.
"They are just fighting amongst each other," he said, referring to the politicians in Washington, D.C.
"I think what needs to be done, we've got to get away from Democrats and Republicans, and just have the people. It should be the people who matter, not the parties," said Hunsinger, the sole owner of a small commercial construction firm.
"The parties should not be fighting against one another. They should be fighting for the people," he added.
"I want to see Congress work for the people," Hunsinger said.
The businessman clearly believes that the federal and state governments need to cut back on spending.
"I think that was one of the biggest reasons for the recession. The government is spending way too much money without making any money. I really feel many of those working in government care more about themselves than about the people, the working people," Hunsinger said.
"The economy is just not what it used to be. Is it ever going to get back to where it was? I sure hope so. I worry about my grandchildren's future," he said.
"The Baby Boomers are starting to retire. When they all go, how are the younger people going to be able to afford the taxes," he asked.
