Rita Ann Barry MacEwan, 90, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of the 1600 block of Faxon Parkway, Williamsport, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, in Clearwater.
Born Jan. 3, 1922, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of Joseph Barry (nee Barile) and Anna Capocefalo Barry. Rita was the final survivor of 12 siblings: Nicholas, Molly, Marguerite, Adeline, Helen, Josephine, Edward, Viola, John, Albert and Alica. She attended city schools and teachers college in Syracuse. Employed there by Dey Brothers' Store, she was a sales associate and model for their Wedding and Better Dresses Departments.
Rita met her beloved husband, George Cole MacEwan, while riding horseback in LaFayette, N.Y., and they married in 1948. The move was made to Williamsport in 1959 when George became Plant Engineer for Avco-Lycoming, now Textron. Together they enjoyed family, homes in Pennsylvania and Florida, friends, pets, travel and gardening. Their 64th wedding anniversary was April 3, 2012.
Surviving are her husband, George of Clearwater; two daughters, Barbara MacEwan Turner of Williamsport and Judy L. Steltz (Glenn) of Allentown; and nieces and nephews. A memorial mass was held in Sylvan Abbey, Clearwater, with burial in Wildwood Cemetery in Williamsport.
