Alexander Eckard

JERSEY SHORE - The Jersey Shore Lions Club's Citizen of the Month for January is Alexander William Eckard, son of Wendy and Andrew Eckard, of Williamsport.

Eckard is a student at Jersey Shore Area High School and has been active in National Honor Society, Constitutional Convention, school musical-play, Future Business Leaders of America, Mock Trial, Model U.N.

Eckard served as co-president of FBLA in 10th grade. He is FBLA's vice-president of public relations. Outside school, Eckard is a co-op student with Jersey Shore Area School District's technology department.

He has qualified for the national level of competition in three of his four years as a member of FBLA. As a freshman and as a junior, Eckard earned ninth-place national finishes in the Virtual Business Challenge. This year, he has again qualified for the national level of competition. He was also selected to serve an internship with Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week during the summer between his junior and senior years.

Eckard enjoys music, camping, hiking, hunting and playing pickle ball, a pastime he intends to continue as a student at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he will pursue a major in computer engineering.

Kayleen Maihle

JERSEY SHORE - The Business and Professional Women's Club Girl of the Month for January is Kayleen Elizabeth Maihle, daughter of Tena Bock and Jay Maihle, of Jersey Shore.

A student at Jersey Shore Area High School, Maihle has been involved in Prom Committee, Bible Club, National Art Honor Society, Chorus, Second Mile Leadership Conference, Homecoming Committee, FCCLA, National Honor Society, Upward Bound, Relay For Life, School Counts and Freshman Orientation.

Maihle has been involved with the Moose Youth Awareness Program, which teaches elementary aged children about diversity, and the SWANS program, which teaches computer literacy skills to elderly patrons. She is the co-director for her church's children's church, nursery program and baby basket ministry. In addition, she cleans the church nursery and participates in two weekly youth groups as well as Sunday school and church services. Maihle earned a silver medal award for her FCCLA community service project of providing clothing to needy families in the Jersey Shore Area.

Maihle enjoys dancing, reading and running. She plans to attend the Word of Life Bible Institute to become a missionary.

Warrior Run Middle School

TURBOTVILLE - The Warrior Run Middle School announces the recipients of the Student of the Month Award for the month of December.

The recipients are chosen by a vote of the middle school faculty and the award is given to the member of each class who has the following qualifications: is courteousness, eager to learn and participate in class, maintains at least a C average, is a good school citizen and well-rounded individual who shows leadership potential.

The award winners for December are:

Grade 5 - Alyssa Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Williams.

Grade 6 - Jacob Frontz, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Frontz.

Grade 7 - Hayden Divers, daughter of Mr. Richard Divers II and Ms. Shannon Koser.

Grade 8 - Jorge Guillen, son of Ms. Christine Mendoza.
