John C. Goettel, 80, of Danielson, Conn., died Dec. 15, 2012. He was born March 12, 1932, the son of Carl and Helen (Shirey) Goettel, and graduated from Williamsport High School in 1949. He was a graduate of Penn State University and completed his master's degree at the University of Wisconsin.
After serving in the U. S. Army Signal Corp. he was employed as a chemical engineer and owned a travel agency. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Danielson and in the local food pantry. John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen; three children, Christina (Michael) Connolly of Natick, Mass., Mark (Patricia) Goettel of Cumberland, Maine, and Brad Goettel of Voluntown, Conn.; six grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Hill of Williamsport, Pa.; two brothers, Carl Goettel of Montoursville, Pa., and Larry Goettel of Falmouth, Mass.
A service was held in Danielson.
