John "Jackie" Perla Sr., 70, of Arnot, passed away at home on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, following a courageous five-year battle with cancer.
John Michael, "Jackie" to family and friends, was born on Jan. 26, 1942, in Coaldale, Pa. A son of Mary "Marie" (Bitsko) Stevens of Arnot, and the late John Joseph Perla. He was employed as a machinist by Ward Manufacturing in Blossburg. John was a member of Blossburg's St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed times shared with family, riding his Harley Davidson, hunting, fishing, camping and playing the lottery.
Besides his mother, surviving are his wife, the former Robin Lynn Campbell; three children, Helen (Will) Beckhorn of Addison, N.Y., John Jr. (Tammi) Perla and Donna Perla all of Arnot; two stepchildren, Jaime (Matt) Rhinehart of Wellsboro, Joshua Guariglia of Johnstown; 18 grandchildren; 10 siblings; a friend and caregiver, Greg Root and his devoted dog, Shadow.
Besides his father, John was predeceased by his first wife, JoAnne (Zelinski) Perla on Jan. 18, 1996; infant daughters, Debra Lynn Perla and JoAnne Perla.
Calling hours are 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Zwicharowski Funeral Home, 314 Granger St. in Blossburg. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m.
