Whoever put together the first page of the Sunday edition either had no eye for irony or was simply illustrating a sad truth about our country.
Next to the heading about "Honoring King's Legacy" was another headline revealing that "Gun Sales Spike."
Dr. King was a man of peace whose passive resistance was a model of how non-violence can accomplish the seemingly impossible. The resistance to all forms of gun control--or even reasoned debate on the issue--speaks volumes about the long road America still has to take to be the beacon of hope that it likes to consider itself.
