Even after the outcome had been decided and her outstanding performance was complete, Loyalsock senior Taylor Daskivich still cheered as loud as any fan whenever her younger teammates played well Saturday at Williamsport.
Daskivich says it is important to do so since she is a senior leader and the underclassmen mean a lot to her. Daskivich means a lot to Loyalsock too and it was evident as she recorded a double-double and helped Loyalsock wallop Lincoln Leadership Academy, 66-21 in the first of two girls games at the Williamsport Showcase.
Daskivich scored 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dealt two assists while hitting 5 of 7 shots in just 2 quarters as Loyalsock dominated from start to finish and recorded its most impressive performance this season.
Prep Charter downed Williamsport, 61-37 in the second girls game.
"This felt really good today and was a big confidence booster for us," Daskivich said. "We did a good job executing our offense and it was nice to be able to focus on us and what we were doing and not what the other team was doing."
Daskivich was eating up Lincoln from the start, scoring four points and grabbing four rebounds in the first quarter and helping Loyalsock (6-9) built a 13-point halftime lead. The senior is a versatile forward who can be especially solid when she attacks the basket the way she did yesterday.
The guards did a nice job getting Daskivich the ball down low and once they did, Daskivich took care of the rest, helping Loyalsock snap a three-game losing streak.
"Taylor played really well and played the way I have expected her to play all year," Loyalsock coach Demarr Wright said. "Taylor works so hard in practice and is a true student of the game. She is the kind of player you really want to be successful."
All the Lancers were successful Saturday as they broke out of a season-long offensive funk, scored their most points in a game and hit 16 off 22 shots at one point while going on a 20-1 third-quarter run to turn it into a romp.
Megan McKernan scored a game-high 12 points and hit four 3-pointers while Allie Pagana added 10 points and three blocks. Katy Burdett had six assists while reserves like Abby Sullivan (8 points), Angie Cardillo (5 rebounds) and Cellina Salvatori (9 points, 4 steals) were outstanding off the bench.
"We come to the mindset every practice that we can make playoffs," Daskivich said. "This was an important win to get and should give us a lot of confidence moving forward."
Aisha Evans shined for Williamsport in the second game, but Prep Charter dominated the second quarter with a 21-2 run and rode that to a convincing win. Evans scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and made four steals, again showing why she is one of District 4's best players.
The Millionaires trailed the Class AAA power by only two after the first quarter, but Prep Charter forced six straight turnovers to start the second and cruised from there. Freshman Chloe Jennings played well in the fourth quarter for Williamsport, scoring all seven of her points while Amy Southard added five points and four rebounds.
