I do not know much about the history of guns, but I think that when the Second Amendment was written the state-of-the-art was limited mainly to muzzle loading rifles and pistols and to cannon. Perhaps therein lays a solution to gun control.
Should we perhaps limit guns to their position in society at the time the Second Amendment was written? That is, guarantee the right of all citizens to bear the arms with which our forefathers were familiar muzzle loading guns and cannon. Surely that was their intent since there appears to be no evidence they conceived of AR-15s and other rapid-kill weapons of today.
