Helena Shurer Moseley, passed away on Feb. 5, 2013, peacefully at home. She was born on Oct. 8, 1935, in Bastress, Pa., to Bertha Steppe and William Shurer. Her father died fighting a brush fire when she was six months old. She and her mother then moved to Williamsport, Pa. Helena graduated from St. Mary's High School and Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Allentown, Pa. She met her husband while still in nursing school and he still in college. They married in 1956.
After her husband's graduation, they moved to New Jersey where he taught at Lakewood Junior High School and she worked at Point Pleasant Hospital for 24 years. After retirement, they enjoyed many family trips, especially the ones to Hawaii, Alaska and Norway. She also enjoyed bowling, where she was a member of the Brunswick Bowling League for 10 years, and singing in the Church of Visitation Choir.
She was predeceased by her mother, father, stepfather and many aunts and uncles. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Thomas, of 56 years; her son, William and his friend Michelle, her son, Tom; her daughters, Cynthia and her husband Brian, Deborah and her husband Bill and Carolyn and her husband Mark; she also leaves behind six grandchildren, Bill and Michelle Duffy, Kathleen and Kevin Glancy, and Carly and Kyle Kerr; a half-sister, Georgia and her husband Steve; her niece, Ashley; her Uncle Louis Steppe; and many cousins.

A viewing will be held Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick, NJ 08723, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday 11 a.m. at The Church of Visitation, followed by an interment at The New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown, N.J. The family has asked for, in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to The Church of Visitation Music Ministry, 730 Lynnwood Ave., Brick, NJ 08723.
