William J. "Bill" "Pappy" Steele Sr., 91, of Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at the Gatehouse.
He was born Aug. 10, 1921, in Williamsport, the son of Jesse James Steele and Josephine Loner.
William was the husband of the late Cora Bradley Steele.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in Iwo Jima.
William was a self-employed carpet installer. He had been working since age 13.
He had done a lot of metal detecting in the past with his wife.
William was a kind man and very helpful to everyone.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
William is survived by a daughter, Carol Steele, of Williamsport; a son, Ronald Steele of Florida; a sister, Anna Pedrick of Salem, N.J.; also many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Sanderson and five siblings.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Green Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. John C. Baney officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Honor Guard.
Arrangements are being handled by the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.
