A look at future?

February 10, 2013
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

We cannot fully look into the future, but if we continue down the path that the Obama administration is presently on and has been on for the last four years, many foresee possible real chaos. His "tax and spend" policies continue to put us deeper in debt. We continue borrowing money from other countries and the Fed continues to print more money, further devaluing the dollar. They continue to demonize the risk-takers and job providers, and then reward the slackers with more entitlement benefits in order to buy votes. Almost everyone knows this is unsustainable, but here we are, apparently heading into four more years of the same liberal policies, furthered along with more class warfare, demonization, division, intolerance and arrogance!

In the wake of recent tragedies, many politicians are using this opportunity/crisis to attack guns, the NRA, and even the Second Amendment. They even shamelessly trot out children as political props to further their agenda. Unfortunately, the ones clamoring for more gun control are usually the very ones responsible for the problem, creating gun free zones with ignorance, apathy and political correctness as their guide.

The NRA stands poised, ready with real common sense safety programs, training and other solutions, but the opposition, in their arrogance, ignores and demonizes them.

It has been said and proven before, but I believe it bears repeating; when the gun rights of law-abiding citizens are further restricted, crime rates, especially violent crimes, escalate. When law-abiding citizens' ability to acquire and carry defensive weapons is relaxed, those same crime rates plummet. Society does not fail, it doesn't turn into the Wild West and there are not more gunfights in the street.

Even in countries such as Australia, Great Britain and Canada, after outlawing, restricting and/or cutting certain guns by type or appearance, crime rates eventually rose and continue to do so. The reason is simple criminals prefer unarmed victims!

Looking further into the future, consider this wild and scary, but a possible scenario: We continue on this path and the U.S. economy collapses to some degree, turning us into just another third world country, like Greece or Mexico. The government goes broke, police are laid-off or fired, and entitlements like welfare and food stamps come to a screeching halt. What happens to food supplies, medicines, and transportation of those resources?

Where will the starving hoards go for food and other needs? You can expect that some of them will be coming to take yours! And tell me which will you feel more comfortable with, your cell phone or a semi-automatic, high-capacity weapon? They'll probably have theirs!
