No. 1 Penn State won eight of 10 bouts in a 31-7 win at Pittsburgh Friday night. No. 3 Quentin Wright picked up the dual's singature win with a pin at 197 over No. 2 Matt Wilps.
Andrew Alton, No. 7 at 149, beat Ronnie Garbinsky 14-7 with five takedowns. Dylan Alton, No. 5 at 157, won 7-3 over Donnie Tasser.
Penn State posted a lop-sided 27-4 takedown advantage. Taylor led the way with six while Ruth and Andrew Alton each had five.
After top-ranked Ed Ruth stayed unbeaten at 184, Wright then thrilled a great crowd of Penn State faithful at Pitt's Fitzgerald Fieldhouse by pinning Wilps. A quick scramble at the end of the first period allowed Wright to gain control of the Panther and stay unbeaten on the year with the pin at the 2:43 mark.
Penn State will wrap up a rugged four-dual road swing against ranked opponents when it visits Ohio State on Sunday. Its only remaining home dual meet is Feb. 17 vs. Rider.
In high school wrestling, Delaware Valley ended Jersey Shore's session at the PIAA?Class AAA?Duals, 61-9 on Friday Morning in Hershey.
Shore fell into the consolations with a 54-15 loss to Franklin Regional on Thursday.
The Bulldogs will wrestle Central Mountain this week and prepare for the upcoming District 4 Class AAA championships.
In swimming, the Lycoming men grabbed third place finishes in the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay in the first day of the MAC Swim Championships. Zack Brower was the only member to participate in both races.
Also, freshman Kyle Garase (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) became the first Lycoming men's swimmer to post a sub-2:00 200-yard individual medley and he followed that by serving as a key part of the 400-yard medley relay team that broke a school record.
BethAnn Schwoyer took home a 16th place finish in the 50 free and helped lead two relays for the women. Schwoyer finished behind teammate Brigid Clark, who finished with a 10th overall finish in the 50 free.
