This morning's commute might be messy.
The National Weather Service in State College issued a freezing rain advisory on Sunday that is in effect through 9 a.m. this morning.
"We could get up to one-tenth of an inch accumulation of ice by morning," said Craig Evanego, weather service meteorologist. "It might be a little slick for the morning commute."
It’s not Airmen Pond, but it’s ice all the same. Jared Gastrock, of Williamsport, left, and Brady Walter, of Loyalsock Township, knock a puck around at Indian Park on Sunday.
A couple stroll on the Williamsport side of the Susquehanna River Walk on Sunday afternoon.
The temperature will grow warmer throughout the day, leading to a high in the mid-40s.
"Any lingering precipitation should change over to plain rain during the morning hours, and they expect the rain to taper off during afternoon," Evanego said. "If things are wet, there could be some refreezing (to)night as the colder air comes back in ... the cold front might bring a few flurries.
"We'll lose a lot of what snow is on the ground (today) once we warm up. It won't be too hard to melt that off," he added. "It's not looking like a big impact on the West Branch of the Susquehanna right now. There's not a lot of snow out there to melt and, as far as rainfall, we're probably looking in the order of a quarter to half an inch."
After today, the rest of the week is expected to be mostly free of hazardous winter weather.
"It will stay mostly cloudy on Tuesday with a high in the upper 30s, and it will be cloudy Tuesday night with a low in the low-20s. Wednesday into Wednesday night there's a 40-percent chance of snow," Evanego said. "There's a system that looks like it might slide off to the south of the Williamsport area ... we're not sure if that will bring any snow to the area at all."
Wednesday's high temperature will be in the mid-30s and then skies should clear for a sunny Thursday and Friday.
"We'll have a high on Friday in the low-40s, and then there's a 50-percent chance on Saturday of some snow showers," Evanego said.
