Before we can talk about the problems of violence today, we must first learn what we are talking about. First, everything is an assault weapon. An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm. So if you threaten to stab someone with a pencil, then the pencil is the assault weapon, if you threaten to beat someone, your fists are an assault weapon. You cannot ban assault weapons.
Virtually every firearm style was used by the military, lever action, bolt action, even muzzleloaders so to ban military style firearms you would have to ban every gun. No more hunting, no more skeet shooting nothing. Even large capacity magazines have been around for over a hundred years so don't blame them. By the way there is a difference between a magazine and a clip look it up.
The same firearms were around 30 or 40 years ago but we didn't have these problems, so what has changed? Is it video games or violent movies? Is it how we look at life and its value or how we treat mental illness? These are the things we need to be looking at.
