For its help and support of Hope Enterprises throughout the years, the Kiwanis Club of Williamsport was presented with the "Community Pat on the Back" award Thursday.
The presentation and honor came as a surprise for Kiwanis' members, as Dr. Jim Campbell, Hope president, and Cindy Bogart, Aktion Club member, walked into the room unannounced during a normal club meeting. Holding balloons, Campbell asked to interrupt the meeting for their "surprise visit."
"We are here to thank you," Campbell said.
Cindy Bogart, Aktion member, hands Dale Dunmore, Kiwanis Club of Williamsport president, a certificate of appreciation during Thursday’s meeting.
Twice a year, Campbell explained, Hope goes into the community to honor organizations that have "gone way beyond the call of duty," to help in its mission and efforts.
From fundraising and volunteering at a variety of Hope events, to being the "back bone" of the organization's soap box derby, Campbell said the club is a large part of the community.
"What we are here to do is reach back and say thank you," he said.
Campbell also noted the club's efforts in the local Aktion Club, which supports adults with disabilities.
"What that does to our individuals is just incredible," Campbell said of the club.
As Bogart handed Dale Dunmore, Kiwanis president, a certificate of appreciation, she again thanked him for "everything you do."
Dunmore called the partnership "a wonderful effort between the two clubs."
After the presentation, Bogart said she was happy to see the surprised reaction because she worked hard to keep it a secret from Dunmore.
"I wanted him to be surprised," she said.
