The paranoia and ignorance regarding gun regulation exhibited in letters and subsequent comments in your paper is alarming. The utter nonsense spouted by the NRA leaders and likeminded believers is one of the most dangerous threats facing this country today.
The NRA is simply a lobbying organization with the one goal of seeing that gun manufactures sell more guns and ammunition. The more the NRA spews their silly drivel of jack booted thugs, confiscation, 2nd amendment suspension and bizarre conspiracy theories then the more guns and ammunition are sold and the more successful the NRA.
The concept of a self-fulfilling prophecy is well known and documented throughout history. Unfortunately, if enough people believe and prophesize that prudent and rational gun regulation will lead to some kind of dictatorship, government collapse or anarchy then there is a good chance that it will eventually happen.
