George F. Fortner

George F. Fortner, 81, of Dover, Del., died Feb. 15, 2013. Born in Williamsport, Pa., son of the late Charles H. and Ruth E. Hayes Fortner, he was a graduate of Williamsport High School and graduated from Lycoming College in 1955 with a B.S. in Retailing. George was elected class president in 1955, and holds a career rebounding record of 1,174 rebounds in basketball at Lycoming. He was an original member of the areas Little League Program which was founded in Williamsport, Pa., in 1939, where he played for the Lundy Lumber Team. He was inducted into the Lycoming Warriors Hall of Fame in 1995.

In 1955, George married Dolores "Dee" Stanzione and served as a Manager for the Sears and Roebuck Co. for the next 45 years. He was an active member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover and was a member of Maple Dale C.C. where he enjoyed playing Golf. His witty humor, that kept most at ease, will be dearly missed. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brother, Chas H. "Pete" Fortner III.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St., Dover, Del., where friends may call starting at 9:30 a.m. Private burial will be in Pa. Family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to your favorite charity.
