Lycoming County commissioners announced today that they plan to introduce a countywide property reassessment to take place this year.
Commissioners said a reassessment is long overdue. The last one was conducted in 2004.
They said the undertaking will level the playing field to help achieve a fair tax base.
Reassessment does not mean a tax increase, according to commissioners. Although many property values may increase under reassessment, the county's millage rate will decrease to reflect "neutral revenue."
