Michael L. Ranck, 63, of 761 Ridge Road, Jersey Shore, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 21, 2013, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center, after a two-year battle with leukemia.
Born March 15, 1949, in Williamsport, he was the son of Charles A. Ranck and Doris M. (Biichle) Ranck.
Mike is survived by his wife, the former Bernadette M. Ray. They were united in marriage on Aug. 12, 1972, in Williamsport. For 31 years, he was the purchasing agent for Thermacore in Williamsport. Mike was passionate about music and playing the guitar and singing. Earlier in his life, he was the lead singer for The Conductors, a well-known local band. Mike also enjoyed Revolutionary War Reenactment. During the Vietnam War, Mike honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, and was awarded the Purple Heart for his distinguished service.
Also surviving is his mother of Williamsport; two sons, Benjamin M. (Jennifer) Ranck and Jeremiah S. Ranck, both of Jersey Shore; two beloved grandchildren, Avalar and Zavian; two brothers, Gary C. (Lori) Ranck of Wellsboro and Mark W. (Aida Yabut) Ranck of Dana Point, Calif.; one sister, Gail A. (Donald) Leidhecker of Williamsport; several nephews and nieces; and his loving grand-dog Lucy.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the Pine Street United Methodist Church, 441 Pine St., Williamsport. Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests friends to make contributions to the Michael L. Ranck Memorial Fund, c/o Bernadette M. Ranck, 761 Ridge Road, Jersey Shore, Pa. Memorial fund proceeds will be used to benefit Hope Lodge of Central Pennsylvania. During the past two years, the Hope Lodge gave Mike encouragement, which inspired him to pass that hope on to others through his gift of music, sense of humor and compassionate heart.
