City Council approved demolition of a property owned by Lycoming College that is planning to construct a maintenance building at the site on East Fourth Street.
The college received permission to demolish a building at 121 E. Fourth St. that had been in a structure fire.
The college plans to rebuild a maintenance building at the location, said Joseph Gerardi, city codes administrator.
To also assist in the plan, council approved an ordinance vacating a portion of East Street on first reading. The portion of the road to be vacated is south of South Edwin Street.
"The college requested that portion be vacated as a public streets to become a parking lot," said John Grado, city engineer and director of community and economic development. The plan provides for access to fire and emergency trucks and equipment.
