Peter Anthony Prato, 82, South Williamsport, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Sycamore Manor Health Center. Pete was born in Williamsport on April 20, 1930, a son of Anthony and Margaret Casale Prato.
He was a 1949 graduate of South Williamsport High School. He was an accomplished athlete, especially in baseball, softball and basketball, and was inducted into the West Branch Sports Hall of Fame.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, a member of the Newberry Independent Club (Polish Club) and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Pete retired in 1995 after 43 years at Avco/Textron. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949 until 1950 at Fort Meade and Fort Knox, for which he was a star baseball player.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Norma L. Feig Prato; his son, Anthony M. Prato of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Michele Prato of Aurora Colo.; a brother, Joseph Prato; nephew, Joey Prato; and his grandchildren, Peter A. Prato II and Alicia Marie Prato.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Mary Grace and Mary Elizabeth and niece, Kelly Prato, preceded him in death. Some knew him as Petey. All knew him as honest and loyal. He will be missed by many.
Funeral and burial in Wildwood Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
