Community services

February 28, 2013
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Wouldn't it be nice to have the non-violent offenders perform some much-needed community services, not just around the Lycoming County Courthouse but let's say start at Brandon Park and walk down Hepburn Street picking up trash along the way to Little League Boulevard over to either Market Street or Pine Street back up to Brandon Park.

Perhaps community services could even assist parks employees on grunt duties, cleaning out sewer grates, sweeping the gutters and curb areas, and shoveling of handicap corners the city spent so much money on. Trucks plow streets, inadvertently blocking the corners. Have them assist a pre-approved list of in-need seniors that have trees to trim or cut in their yards. Perhaps Penn College could get some donations of projects by tree cutters classes courses?
