The East Central Division of the American Cancer Society will hold the 2013 Destiny Ball on Nov. 15 at the Williamsport Country Club.
This year's theme is "Journey of Hope," encompassing an around-the-world theme. The journey will include places such as Italy, Russia, Greece and Asia. The event is black tie optional and will feature live and silent auctions, dinner and dancing.
Barb and Joe Reynolds of Williamsport will serve as co-chairs of the Destiny Ball.
Barb has worked for the Susquehanna Health Center for 37 years and is an oncology nurse at the Cancer Treatment Center. Joe, a stage-three colon cancer survivor, is the vice president of manufacturing at Nu-Weld Inc.
" Hope this will be the biggest and most productive American Cancer Society fundraising event this county has ever seen," the Reynolds said.
This year, with the help of the community, they hope to raise $60,000.
As the largest private funder of cancer research and resource for cancer information through their information line and website, the American Cancer Society provides a variety of programs and direct services to the local community.
It is the society's mission to stay well, get well, find cures and fight back. This is what makes the American Cancer Society the official sponsor of birthdays.
