Robert Leroy "Trix" Hughes, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the Williamsport Home, Williamsport, Pa.
Trix was born in Pen Argyl, Pa., the son of the late Archibald and Vivian (May) Hughes.
He was the widower of Geneva Aldean "Jean" (Cartwright) Hughes, who passed away Dec. 1, 2000.
Trix graduated from Pen Argyl High School in 1936 and attended Rensselear College. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945. Following the war he started a restaurant business in El Derado, Kan., and later returned to Pen Argyl where he and his wife owned and operated Trix's Restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue. Trix was famous for his free Thanksgiving Day Banquet for the Pen Argyl High School Football Team. In the 1960s, Trix and his wife bought and operated Hughes Clothing Store on the corner of Robinson and Pennsylvania Avenue until they retired in 1983. Retirement was a time of enjoyment and dancing in Florida.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pen Argyl, Pa. He was also a member of the Charles Nelson Lobb American Legion Post in Pen Argyl, Pa., the former Pen Argyl Exchange Club, and the Pen Argyl Bicential Committee.
Trix is survived by a daughter, Marlene Marie Branton and her husband Russell, of Williamsport, Pa.; son-in-law, Robert Hoch of Pen Argyl; five grandchildren, Christopher Hughes Branton, Shawn Ryan Branton, and Colin Russell Branton, all of Williamsport, Pa., and Casey Hughes Hoch and Haley Marjean Hoch of Pen Argyl, Pa. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Beck, Russell, Samantha, Ryan, Lilly, and Mitchell Branton and Paige Hoch.
In addition to his parents and wife, Trix was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Hoch and a sister, Jane Joyce Werner.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, in the James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, 200 S. Robinson Ave., Pen Argyl, Pa. Calling hours are 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery Pen Argyl, Pa.
