Reader asks: Why the hate?

March 9, 2013
By MARY ANN ZEIDLER Special to the Sun-Gazette , Williamsport Sun-Gazette

I have been interested in the Jewish people for a long time. Their commitment to their families impressed me. I drove a station wagon full of Jewish children to preschool and home everyday. They were delightful, bringing me cookies they helped to bake or an apple. Their moms were very caring of them and me also.

As I went along in life I was exposed to the Holocaust and read Corrie Ten Boom's story "The Dairy of Anne Frank" and Banhoeffer's life experiences and more sad, sad details of World War II. It aroused in me a deep concern and a great question "why?" Why turn on one culture? A people that love God, are not aggressive to other cultures and are a benefit to the world.

Jewish people have been honored with more Nobel prizes than any other nationality. They have made great contributions to medicine, science, education, economics, agriculture, military and intelligence forces, to name just a few. One thing that really impresses me is that Israel has total religious freedom. All religions are welcome to live there.

Arabs, Christians and Jews were friendly neighbors until the Palestinian Authority started all this unrest. One fact that really seems unbelievable is that Israel is a small sliver of land the size of New Jersey. Look it up on your map, globe or on the Internet. The surrounding 22 Arab nations have 650 times the land mass of Israel. Why wouldn't these nation states offer land to the Palestinians for settlement? No one has offered this solution to them. It seems to me these people are jealous of the Jews.

God has named Jews "the apple of His eye," "His chosen ones." Yet others want to eliminate them. I ask all who read this article to stop and think about this urgent matter. Stand up for Israel in a time such as this. Talk to family and friends. Many people are not aware of the importance of this issue. The Jews are the founders of the Christian faith. Without them we wouldn't have the blessings we have. Jesus was a Jew. Please pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
