Durwood Francis Kobbe, 65, of New Albany, Pa., passed away Monday evening, March 4, 2013, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. Durwood was born Aug. 8, 1947, the son of Francis Ralph Kobbe and Beltha Boyles Kobbe. He was a graduate of Sullivan County High School class of 1966 and following graduation attended the Williamsport Technical Institute. Durwood was employed by Hoffman New Yorker in Dushore, Pa., for over 30 years until his retirement due to declining health. He was a member of the Creekside Rod & Gun Club in LaPorte, Pa., and was associated for many years with the Forksville Bow Festival. Durwood was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and hosting pig roasts.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Campbell Kobbe of New Albany; daughter, Tammy Laidacker and husband Wayne of Muncy; sons, Jeff Kobbe, Terry Crawford and Hope Brown of New Albany, Edward "Ted" Crawford of New Albany; grandsons, Logan Laidacker of Muncy, Pa., Keith Brown of New Albany; granddaughter, Lauryn Laidacker of Muncy; brothers, Norman Kobbe and wife Elaine of Montgomery, Pa., Alan Kobbe and wife Beverly of Milledgeville, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; close friends, Danny and Tui Slocum, Chris and Tiffany Collins and Sharon and Francis Zurn, all of New Albany.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Delos Kobbe and wife Betty and a nephew, Ralph Kobbe.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 8, 2013, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Overton, Pa., with Pastor Steven Smith officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Paul's Cemetery, Overton, Pa. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the New Albany Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 167, New Albany, PA 18833 in Durwood's memory.
