Rudolph P. Ries, 92, Skyview Dr., Milton, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Kramm Health and Rehab Center, Milton.
Born in Sunbury on Dec. 29, 1920, he was the son of the late Rudolph H. and Francesca (Frank) Ries. He was married for 61 years to the former Helen Jean Hackenberg until her death on June 5, 2005.
Rudy was a 1939 graduate of the Sunbury High School and had served in the US Army during World War II. He had worked for the First National Bank in Sunbury as head teller, Hackenberg Chevrolet in Milton as a salesman, and Haga Chevrolet in Milton as a salesman.
He had retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a captain. He was a member of the American Legion Post 71 in Milton, the F&AM Lodge No. 22 in Sunbury, the Kiwanis Club in Milton, and a life member of the Sunbury Social Club. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his faithful dog, Katie.
Rudy is survived by two daughters, Debra J. Cogan and her husband Ross, Milton, and Jacqueline R. Hopkins and her companion, William Hassenplug, Milton; five grandchildren, Casey East, Ryan Cogan, Lindsey Metzger, Abbey Norton and Peter Hopkins; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Noll, Northumberland and his companion, June Benner of Sunbury. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Ries and Alfred Ries; and a sister, Pauline Whitenight.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Cheryl Berner officiating. Military honors will be held at the funeral home.
