Gene Alden Heyler, 57, of Columbia, Md., passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at his home.
Born March 2, 1956, he was the son of the late Earl W. and Freda (Maneval) Heyler.
Gene graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, Pa., in 1974. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in engineering science. Gene received a master's degree in computer science from Johns Hopkins University in 1983. He was employed at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory since 1978 as an Aerospace Engineer, where he worked on over 20 NASA and Department of Defense space missions. Gene was an active member of Glen Mar United Methodist Church in Maryland for over 33 years.
Gene is survived by his wife, the former Tina Lynne Walker. He was the proud father of two sons, Adam Joseph Heyler and Paul William Heyler, Columbia, Md. In addition, he is survived by brothers, Kenneth (Susan) and John (Susan), both of Nauvoo and sister, Margie (John) Harendza, Binghamton, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul-Nauvoo United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23. Visitation is at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
